Fungal Nail Care

A fungus is a living organism that harbors in warm, moist areas. Toenail fungus is a common problem that can affect people of all ages, although it is most often associated with older people. Toenail fungus often begins as an infection called athlete’s foot (tinea pedis). In this case, the fungus begins under the end of the nail (nail fold). Over time the fungus will grow underneath the toenail, changing the appearance of the nail to a yellow or brown discoloration. Furthermore, the fungus can cause a thickening or deformity of the nail. A medical professional should be seen for treatment options. Laser therapy has shown to be an effective method of treatment for toenail fungus.

“Over time, a nail infected with fungus can become thick and misshapen, leading to pain. Widespread infection left untreated can lead to loss of toenails.”
