Foot Odor

Children and adults alike can be prone to foot odor when they wear the same pair of shoes daily. Sweating by the feet is also a cause of foot odor. The odor in these cases is produced by a fungus or bacteria that grows in the shoes and attaches to the skin of the foot. In fact, some bacteria actually eat away at the top layer of skin to produce a foul odor. Feet should be washed daily with soap and water. Socks should be clean and dry.

“Bromodosis is a common medical condition indicated by smelly feet. It is due to a buildup of sweat that results in bacterial growth on the skin, with the bacteria being responsible for the bad odor. Fungal infections like athlete’s foot can also lead to bromodosis.”
